It’s IPL Season and we’re in lockdown 2.0! And this piece from a few years ago pops up in my feed at just the appropriate time. It took me back to over a decade ago when the Delhi Daredevils player was an IPL hotshot. Take a look at Glenn in conversation with UpperCrust reporter, yours truly, sans mask! Those better days!

When you have a 6 ft 4″ personality come down to your city, handsome and fit, one of the fastest bowlers in the history of cricket, truly genial and jovial, you make the most of your interaction in the slot you have allotted. And so we did, when we met with Glenn McGrath – Director of MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai and Co-founder of McGrath Foundation – established along with his wife Jane who passed away in 2008 from breast cancer. And the most recent title – the reason for our rendezvous -Ambassador for Hardy’s by Accolade Wines, presented by Sula Selections in India. Oh, and father-to-be for the third time is another achievement under Glenn’s cap!

“My wife Sara is expecting our first child together, due in October. My son, James and daughter, Holly are excited, too and yes, before you ask, I miss being at home with them,” Glenn starts us off. Travelling to Delhi and Bangalore with Hardy’s post Bombay, Glenn is a busy man, yet enjoys the interactions and the promotions for it is a brand close to his heart. Hardy’s bears a 160-year-old heritage in Australia and has been major sponsors for cricket in Australia. And who better to take the wine around the world than food lover Glenn – author of a cookbook on barbecuing with the master and who enjoys a glass of wine with dinner. Ask about his favourite Hardy’s glass and the answer is a Chardonnay or a Shiraz. Presently available here are the entry level sparkling Chardonnay-Pinot Noir NV, Chardonnay-Semillon, Riesling-Gewürztraminer, Cabernet-Merlot and Shiraz-Cabernet. “Good wine and great food are paramount,” says Glenn, the man who equates grilling a good piece of chicken with the way a test cricketer is grilled, the man who holds the accolade for the highest number of test wickets in a test series.

Cheers to getting to know Glenn, the country music and chocolate lover.
